Family Favorite: Apple Crisp/Cobbler

Homemade apple crisp made with our homegrown apples! 😋 So tasty! It is a Fall favorite at our home. My grandma called this recipe simply "A cup, a cup, and a cube." I have adjusted it slightly with a mix of oats and flour and doubled it to fit our big crew. It is by far my favorite for a tasty cobbler/crisp.

Supplies:

  • 6 large Apples (We prefer a tarter apple.)

  • 1 cup of Oats

  • 1 cup of All-Purpose Flour

  • 2 cups of Brown Sugar

  • 2 cubes of Butter (room temperature)

Preparation:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

  2. Hand cut or tun the apples through the apple slicer/corer. Once they have been cored and sliced, cut three columns in the apples down the middle from the top. It should create six columns of apple pieces.

  3. Place the apple pieces in a 9x13" casserole pan. You want the pan about 2/3 full.

  4. In a large mixing bowl, mix the oats, flour, brown sugar, and butter until it is even mixed and the butter is in pea-ish-sized chunks. I use a pastry blender/cutter to do this quickly and evenly.

  5. Sprinkle the oat/flour mix over the apples until it evenly covers them.

  6. Bake for about 50 minutes or until a fork sinks easily into the crisp. I usually check the middle and a couple of other spots.

  7. Let cool until the crisp is a comfortable temperature to eat.

Enjoy! We love to top our apple crisp with ice cream or whipped cream.

*This recipe will work great with most fruit. We also use it with rhubarb, peaches, and cherries. Please keep in mind that the baking time will vary with other fruit.
